# Get Thread Status

GET https://api.athenaintel.com/api/v0/threads/{thread_id}/status

Check the status of a thread execution by thread ID. Returns thread status and associated conversation asset information for tracking progress.

Reference: https://docs.athenaintel.com/api-reference/threads/get-status

## Authentication

- `X-API-KEY` header (required) — API Key authentication via header

## Request

### Path parameters

- `thread_id` (string, required) — The unique thread ID to check status for

### Query parameters

- `include_messages` (boolean, optional, nullable) — Whether to materialize checkpoint messages. By default, deployments with lightweight active reads enabled omit messages while a run is scheduled, queued, or running, and include them once it is terminal. Set true to force messages or false to skip them.

## Response

### 200

Thread status retrieved successfully

- `conversation_asset` (ConversationAssetInfo, required, nullable) — Information about the associated conversation asset
- `created_at` (string, required) — ISO timestamp when thread was created
- `status` (string, required) — Current status of the thread (e.g., 'running', 'completed', 'failed')
- `thread_id` (string, required) — The thread ID that was checked
- `updated_at` (string, required) — ISO timestamp when thread was last updated
- `error` (string, optional, nullable) — Error message if thread execution failed

## Errors

### 401 Unauthorized Error

Unauthorized

- `message` (string, required)

### 404 Not Found Error

Thread not found or access denied

- `message` (string, required)

### 422 Unprocessable Entity Error

Validation Error

- `detail` (list of ValidationError, optional)

### 500 Internal Server Error

Internal server error retrieving thread status

- `map from string to any`

## Types

### ConversationAssetInfo

Conversation asset information associated with a thread.

- `agent` (string, required, nullable) — Agent configuration used in conversation
- `athena_metadata` (map from string to any, required, nullable) — Athena metadata for the conversation asset. Stored credentials are masked and last_read_at holds only the caller's own read receipt.
- `conversation_asset_id` (string, required) — ID of the conversation asset
- `created_at` (string, required) — ISO timestamp when conversation was created
- `created_by` (string, required) — User ID who created the conversation
- `last_channel` (string, required, nullable) — Last active channel for the conversation
- `last_message` (ConversationMessage, required, nullable) — Last message in the conversation
- `linked_aops` (list of map from string to any, required, nullable) — List of linked AOP assets
- `linked_projects` (list of map from string to any, required, nullable) — List of linked project assets
- `model` (string, required, nullable) — Model used in conversation
- `num_messages` (integer, required, nullable) — Number of messages in the conversation
- `start_channel` (string, required, nullable) — Channel where conversation was started
- `state` (string, required, nullable) — Current state of the conversation (e.g., 'running', 'completed')
- `title` (string, required) — Title of the conversation
- `updated_at` (string, required) — ISO timestamp when conversation was last updated
- `workspace_id` (string, required) — Workspace ID where conversation exists
- `error` (map from string to any, optional, nullable) — Error details if the conversation execution failed
- `messages` (list of ConversationMessage, optional, nullable) — Complete list of messages in the conversation from checkpoints. May be null for active status polls when lightweight reads are enabled; terminal responses include messages by default.

### ValidationError

- `loc` (list of ValidationErrorLocItems, required)
- `msg` (string, required)
- `type` (string, required)
- `ctx` (ValidationErrorCtx, optional)
- `input` (any, optional)

### ConversationMessage

Model representing a single conversation message.

- `content` (ConversationMessageContent, required) — Message content as text or structured content blocks
- `id` (string, required) — Unique identifier for the message
- `role` (string, required) — Role of the message sender (user, assistant, system)
- `additional_kwargs` (map from string to any, optional) — Additional message metadata
- `name` (string, optional, nullable) — Tool name for tool messages

### ValidationErrorLocItems

- string
- integer

### ValidationErrorCtx

### ConversationMessageContent

Message content as text or structured content blocks

- string
